List of Le Mans 24h winners
The 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 heures du Mans) is the world's oldest sports car endurance race and one of the most famous and influential.
It generated a host of other time-limited endurance races, like the Spa 24 Hours in 1924, the Sebring 12 Hours in 1950, the Daytona 24 Hours in 1966, the 24 Hours Nürburgring in 1970 and the Petit Le Mans in 1998. Also, the American Le Mans and Le Mans Endurance Series use the same rules provided by the French organizer, ACO.
The winners of all editions are listed here. In 1936, the race was not disputed, and neither from 1940 to 1948, due to World War II.
Records
In 2005, Tom Kristensen set an absolute record of seven victories including six in a row, pulling ahead of legendary driver Jacky Ickx, who has a total of 6 wins.
Porsche leads the brands with 16 overall victories for its cars, plus another two overall triumphs scored with Porsche engines. Since the 1950s, Porsche's current road car models often win their classes, e.g. the Porsche 356 and the Porsche 911 models in various re-incarnation like Porsche 996.
Bentley driver Woolf Barnato won all three of the races he drove, earning him the highest win percentage of any repeat driver.
